Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz Jr II Fight Preview

The awaited rematch between Joshua and Ruiz Jr is taking place on Saturday in Saudi Arabia. This eagerly anticipated fight is being hailed as “Clash on the Dunes”. Both fighters are set for a good payday with Joshua set to bag £66 million while Ruiz is taking home £10 million. This spectacle will take place in a 15,000 seater custom-built stadium.

Even though Ruiz Jr is holding the WBA, IBF, and WBO world titles all eyes are going to be on Anthony Joshua. Can the 30-year-old British boxer adjust his style enough to get the better of Ruiz Jr? Tyson Fury doesn’t think so and even quoted Mike Tyson saying “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face. Ruiz Jr was underestimated by many a spectator and boxer alike due to his physical appearance. He also only had 3 weeks to prepare for the first fight.

Having a full 12 weeks training and being the champion will give Ruiz Jr a boost coming into the rematch. Trainer Manny Robles stated that he has been tough on the champ, even Ruiz Jr came out and claimed it is the “perfect place” for him to make history.

Joshua claims that the title fight doesn’t faze the boxer, referring to it as the same as his 16th fight where he won the IBF world heavyweight title vs Charles Martin. Joshua also insisted that he is not here to make a show but to get the victory.

Anthony Joshua also has plenty of doubters out there. Some spectators believe that the boxer is not the seasoned professional that he is hyped to be. This is not going to be a walk in the park for either athlete. Joshua must deploy his advantage in height and reach. If AJ can avoid his instinct to close the gap with Ruiz Jr and keep consistent footwork, he could achieve the victory.

It will be difficult for Joshua to keep his game plan and avoid natural instincts once he steps into the ring and punches begin. Ruiz Jr’s advantages with decisiveness, technical prowess, and hand speed can all still get the better of Joshua. This fight is set up to be either another thriller like the first bout or one where Joshua may just use range and pick off his opponent in the hope of a decision victory.

Who do we Pick?

Even though all the bookmakers are backing Joshua for victory, the rematch may follow the pattern of the first fight. Joshua has lost his narrative and lost his aura after defeat while Ruiz Jr is boosted from a shock victory. If Joshua gets unnerved in the ring during the fight Ruiz Jr will surely win and retain the three belts.

We are tipping Andy Ruiz Jr to come out on top in the rematch at 7/4 on William Hill. Ruiz Jr is also 11/4 to win by KO, TKO or DQ. If you believe it is going to go exactly like the rematch Ruiz Jr is 10/1 to win between the 7th and 9th round.
