James Rodriguez celebrates for Everton

Everton vs Liverpool

12:30PM Saturday 17th October

This weekend’s set of matches in the Premier League is kicked off by the Merseyside derby, with Everton currently unbeaten and Liverpool looking to make amends from the circus show that was on display at Villa Park.

This is perhaps the closest match we will have seen between the two for a very long time, where I think the Toffees will edge it. With new signing James Rodriguez providing a tremendous impact in the middle of the park, along with Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring six goals in four games, Everton look like a real threat for a European spot this season.

Expect a couple of goals too considering the amount we have already seen so far, along with cards being dished out in what will be a typical derby.

Chelsea vs Southampton

3PM Saturday 17th October

The Saints travel to Chelsea with both teams coming off the back of comfortable wins, with Lampard’s men cruising to a 4-0 win against Crystal Palace and Southampton delivered at home against West Brom to beat them 2-0. Chelsea can always produce a lacklustre performance now and again, so it may come now after the international break against a side who can execute a game plan efficiently. I’m not sure how this one will end, but if Chelsea have another poor performance at the back, it could be a long day for the home side. I do think however that Timo Werner will find the back of the net after doing so for his national side.

Manchester City vs Arsenal

5:30PM Saturday 17th October

The 17:30 game between Man City and Arsenal is my pick of the day, as Arsenal can perhaps cause an upset, with city not looking that convincing in recent weeks. If Arsenal can produce another counter attacking display like they did in the FA Cup final, then it could be a long evening for Man City. Leeds gave the home side a tough time in their last outing, while Arsenal produced the goods against Sheffield United. I think both teams to score is a banker, while a winner might be hard to come by.

Newcastle vs Manchester United

8PM Saturday 17th October

Newcastle host Manchester United in the late kick-off, with the visitors arriving in the toon without a number 9 at their disposal. It may be a case of playing Mason Greenwood through the middle, who still needs to rediscover the form he found at the back end of last season. With the attacking players Newcastle now have, it could be a case of Newcastle nicking this game, but United need to get into the game early on and take control of it. The away side’s recent performances haven’t been all that convincing, but I think that if Solkjaer’s men can get into another gear, then they will take all three points.
