Owen Farrell in action against Australia

The knockout phase of the Rugby World Cup begins on Saturday morning (8:15AM UK time) as England face Australia and Ireland face New Zealand (11:15AM).

England vs Australia

These two traditional heavyweights are set to renew their rivalries on Saturday. Pool C winners England have had the advantage of a two-week break with their last game against France being called off. Australia finished second to Wales in Pool D, losing to them on the opening weekend.

Australia beat England in the 2015 World Cup pool stages on a scoreline of 33-13 but England have won all six of their meetings since.

Our friends at Genting Bet have previewed Saturday morning’s match with host Pete Colley once again joined in studio by former England international Andy Goode and Jim Hamilton.

Ireland vs New Zealand

The second quarter-final of the day is a blockbuster between two of the pre-tournament favourites. Ireland laboured to 2nd in Pool A. Joe Schmidt’s side lost to Japan and struggled in wins over Russia and Samoa after blitzing Scotland in the opening pool game.

New Zealand have also had an extra week break for the same reason as England. Steve Hansen’s team’s odds haven’t changed and they are still hot favourites to lift the Webb-Ellis Trophy in three weeks’ time at 5/4. Ireland have picked up two wins against the All Blacks in recent years but there is no doubt that this would be a big shock if New Zealand were knocked off their perch.

Genting Bet have previewed the game with Jim Hamilton and Andy Goode discussing the game in the video below.
