England vs South Africa, Saturday 2nd November 9AM (UK)
The 2019 Rugby World Cup comes to a close on Saturday morning as England face South Africa in the Final.
England dismantled New Zealand last Saturday morning with a final scoreline of 19-7. Before the tournament many people predicted a New Zealand-South Africa final but England have gathered momentum throughout the tournament and steamrolled the All Blacks in the semi-final to set up a showdown with the Springboks.
The Springboks won out in an attritional semi-final last Sunday against Wales. Damian de Allende has been one of the standout players of the tournament and he scored the all-important try against Wales last weekend. Rassie Erasmus’ side have dominated teams with their sheer physicality. Their pack has been the key to their success with Tendai Mtawarira and captain Siya Kolisi being the driving forces in the scrum.
Looking ahead to this game we can expect a clash of styles. The Springboks have favoured a slow, laboured, kicking approach in their game while England proved last week they can match power and finesse with an exhilarating performance.
Eddie Jones has named an unnamed side for the first time in this tournament. The 10-12 combination of George Ford and Owen Farrell impressed and England fans will be hoping Maro Itoje, Tom Curry and Sam Underhill can repeat their excellent semi-final performances.
South Africa have made one change to their winning team from last weekend. Exciting winger Cheslin Kolbe has returned from injury to take his place in the starting XV. He was tipped to be the breakout player of the tournament but unfortunately that has not materialized. He can leave his mark on this tournament though with a try or two on Saturday morning.
